Frequently Asked Questions

What is therapy / psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy provides a safe, confidential, non-judgmental space to explore personal, emotional, behavioural or relational difficulties. Therapy is not only about talking — it also involves learning practical skills to cope more effectively, gain insight, shift unhelpful patterns, and support long-term wellbeing. Growth can sometimes feel uncomfortable, and this is a normal part of the therapeutic process. I work collaboratively with clients, supporting them through each stage of therapy.

How long will I need therapy for?

Therapy duration is unique to each client. Some clients benefit from short-term support (6–12 sessions), while others engage in longer-term work depending on the nature of their goals and challenges. Session frequency and duration are discussed together during treatment planning to best meet individual needs.

How often should I attend therapy?

Session frequency is based on your personal needs, symptoms, support system, and goals. Many clients begin with weekly or bi-weekly sessions, and adjust as progress is made. This is decided collaboratively throughout the process.

What can I expect in my first therapy session?

The first session focuses on getting to know you. We explore your presenting concerns, history, strengths, and therapy goals. We also discuss how we can work together, and what approach might support you best. This session helps guide treatment planning and build a foundation of safety and trust.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes. All sessions are confidential by law and professional ethics. Exceptions apply only when there is serious risk of harm to yourself or others, or in cases of legally mandated reporting (e.g., child protection concerns). These limits are always discussed transparently.
